When a server admin is taking a well deserved break heading out in the woods of norway, there obviously HAS to be a problem with some database.
As you may have noticed we had to put the forums into maintanance mode to clean up a bit.
We just wanted to let you know that everything should be back to normal again.
During the maintenance we pushed in a backup from saturday, so if you wonder where your thread may have gone blame that refreshed but guilty admin!

He promised to use a refresher orb next time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Dear pickupers!

The long awaited new DotA version 6.60 was finally released today. It contains a huge amount of changes, so make sure to read the changelog and get your new map from getdota.com.

Edit: Unfortunately getdota.com seems to have some problems today, we have a mirror up here

Great news for all expired users!

We decided to reopen our expired user section as of now because we don't want to keep once active pickup players out any longer. The registration process is the same as before, so make sure to read the sticky thread in the expired forum and follow its directions.

We will also post a news update including information about our new acceptance system soon.

I also want to apologize to everyone for keeping you out and in the dark for that long, but unfortunately we have suffered from a few setbacks during our development process.

Stay tuned for more information and welcome back all expired users.

Pickup can now be followed on Twitter!

http://twitter.com/dotapickup

See live on your computer or phone what happens on pickup, directly from admins! We will try to constantly tell about what we do and what we prepare, important bans, threads, rules, etc.

For who doesn't know: Twitter is a microblogging platform. We can inform in short messages everyone who is following us. Similar to RSS feeds or SMS messages. You can get a computer "client" (even in firefox), you can watch and add to browser favorites our twitter page (you don't need to register), you can subscribe to receive SMS messages, you can subscribe to RSS feed on that page without twitter account.

Discuss here: http://www.dotapickup.net/forum/index.php/topic,43187.0.html

Happy tweet!

Pickup Staff.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present to you the first official dotapickup movie. All credits go to Mddo, the man behind the whole project from idea to final product, and of course all of you who shared your DotA moments by submitting replays.

Leave your comments in the forum thread,
or go directly to the youtube video.

Did you miss this oppurtunity to show off your favourite dotapickup moment? No worries! We hope that this is only the beginning of a long and prosperous cooperation and Mddo has already announced plans on a sequel, but the movie stars are you so remember to save the replays because without them the next movie might be very short and not very interesting! :D

As you may have recognized, many people are having problems joining LC hosted games lately. This has nothing to do with a "bug" in Listchecker, but was caused by Blizzard updating their servers to require warcraft III clients to answer checks for an active warden (blizzards anti-hack-attempt) when hosting custom games and plain idling.
This causes LC to get disconnected from battle.net when the first warden check is conducted after two minutes of beeing connected and thus the hosted game disappears from battle.net gamelists, forcing the the host to rehost the game on battle.net by using the /hostbnet (/hb) command.
We are currently working on a solution, but since our LC-creator Bonta-Kun has been inactive for a long time and nobody has his code to implement the (existing) solution, we have to devise other ways to provide you with a convenient way to host games.

For now, we advise all hosts to create their games AFTER the "game ready" message and hope everyone joins within that ~2 minute timeframe, if some players are too slow to join, you will have to use /hostbnet again.

If you want to discuss, check out our forums, please use this thread for anything related.

Good news everyone!

We're happy to announce our latest feature, something people have wanted for a long time. You can now reply to pending banrequests on you, for example by posting a link to a disconnect screen or defend yourself in every other possible way.
You may do this as long as the banrequest is pending, after it's handled you'll still have to go to the unbanrequest forum and start an unbanrequest there.
Do not abuse this feature or it may result in harder punishment, only reply if you have something to say.
If you have a longer story to tell, you will still have to go for the unbanrequest because the reply-feature is limited to 100 characters.
You can find the reply-button on the "BANREQUESTS ON YOU" tab.

Edit:
Since some people started complaining, I'll elaborate a little on the reply part. Providing counter-evidence (like a disc-screen) to a pending banrequest on you MIGHT lead to an admin only baning you 1 minute for the record, BUT providing that evidence does neither mean that the ban will be denied, nor that you will ALWAYS only be banned for the record.
Admins take the counter-evidence into consideration and might still ban you the full duration, depending on your banhistory (if you still feel unfairly banned, you may of course go for an unbanrequest).

We have created a new section for users who enjoy watching replays or want their games to be analysed by others.
- If you have questions about what you did wrong, what others did wrong, what to buy, how you should have played.. then post there.
- If you are boored or just want to learn, check this sections for great games replays from euro, xp or tournaments with famous dota players around the world. Watching them play is a great method of improving yourself and for many a great form of entertainment (better then tv!)

So don't be shy... we promise nobody will laugh and more experienced players will teach you:

This was a suggestion by one of our players GladiusZ
here. We encourage everyone to use our Suggestion forum if you think you can help us make Pickup a better place for you and for everyone else.

Dear pickup players,

We have had some trouble with our server during the last couple of days, which resulted in our forum not being accessible occasionally. We just wanted to let you know that the server is now fixed and everything should be back to normal.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
